Canada remains committed to advancing our military capabilities and strengthening our defense relations with NATO allies and partners. As we continue to stand with Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty, Canada will continue to take on a leadership role in multinational efforts to promote regional peace and security in Central and Eastern Europe.

Since Russia's illegal invasion of Crimea in 2014, Canada has reaffirmed its support of a free and safe Ukraine through Operation REASSURANCE. Last week, I travelled to London and met with the Right Honourable Ben Wallace, the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Defence. During our meeting, I announced Canada’s next steps to supporting Operation REASSURANCE. On July 3, Canada deployed HMCS Shawinigan and HMCS Summerside to join the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1. Canada's Maritime Coastal Defense Vessels are key to safeguarding European waters from naval mines that aim to undermine Euro-Atlantic security.

This Standing Naval Force is one of four that operate under NATO Allied Command. Multinational naval exercises and operations provide the unique opportunity of engaging in real life training exercises that build collaborative capacity amongst allied forces.

Operation REASSURANCE continues to be Canada's largest current overseas military operation. The extension of this mission until 2026 ascertains Canada and other NATO members unwavering dedication to advance allied naval capabilities and support Ukraine's fight for sovereignty against Russian forces.

Canada's relationship with the UK has been paramount in supporting Ukrainian military efforts. This bilateral partnership is deeply rooted in historic cooperation to promote the shared goals of peace and security. Canada's Tactical Air Lift Detachment in Prestwick, Scotland has delivered over ten million pounds of military aid to Ukraine and CAF personnel has trained over 2000 Ukrainian Armed Forces recruits in collaboration with British Armed Forces. We will continue to work closely with our allies and bolster our presence overseas to deliver military support to Ukraine.

Royal Canadian Navy ships to join Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures in Europe
This deployment of two ships demonstrates Canada’s commitment to Euro-Atlantic security. Canada will continue to make tangible contributions to NATO. To the companies of HMCS Shawinigan and HMCS Summerside – I wish you fair winds and following seas. Thank you for your service.

New Grocery Rebate delivering relief to Canadians
On Wednesday, the new Grocery Rebate went out to more than 11 million Canadians across the country, putting money back in the pockets of those who need it most. Starting this week, this targeted inflation relief will provide an extra $234 to single Canadians without children, an extra $225 on average for seniors and an extra $467 for a family of 4. We will continue to stand with Canadians and provide financial supports to those who need it most.
