Canada is unwavering in its commitment to bolstering Euro-Atlantic security and supporting Ukraine's brave fight against Russia's illegal invasion. As Canada's Minister of National Defence, I participated in the 13th Ukraine Defense Contract Group (UDGC) meeting in Brussels to consult NATO allies and reaffirm Canada's unwavering solidarity with Ukraine.

To date, our military has trained over 36,000 Ukrainian troops since 2015 and has deployed tanks, artillery and ammunition to support and bolster Ukrainian efforts. Going forward, we will continue to demonstrate our allyship by committing $500 million in new funding for military assistance and advanced defense infrastructure such as the 288 AIM-7 missiles, assault rifles and ammunition.

In meeting with NATO allies, I had the opportunity to reaffirm our responsibility to the Canada-led NATO Battle Group in Latvia. This multinational battle group is integral to bolstering NATO's presence in Eastern Europe and strengthening Euro-Atlantic security. As part of our mission in Latvia and the region, we are deploying a Tank Squadron of 15 Leopard 2 battle tanks along with supporting personnel and equipment.

Canada will continue to respond to the urgent needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine through Operation UNIFER. Currently, 300 CAF members are deployed to the region to train Ukranian troops and support operations on the ground.  We will continue to work with NATO allies and partners to coordinate our efforts and deliver targeted and efficient support to Ukraine.

Mourning the Loss of RCAF Members in CH-147F Helicopter Crash
Iā€™m sending my deepest condolences to the loved ones of Captain David Domagala and Captain Marc Larouche, who lost their lives in the Chinook crash on June 20. Both of these officers served our country with honour and dedication, and we will never forget their legacy.

Trip to Europe
At the 13th annual UDCG meeting, Canada met with approximately 50 other countries to discuss our efforts to provide Ukraine with comprehensive military aid. Since the beginning of the war, Canada has been unwavering in its commitment to support Ukrainian efforts. That's why Canada is investing $500 million in new military assistance for Ukraine and extending operation UNIFER until 2026.

We are determined to advance Euro-Atlantic security and foster stronger multinational relations with NATO allies and partners. I had the opportunity to meet with my counterparts from Latvia and North Macedonia to discuss Canada's leadership role in the multinational NATO Battle Group in Latvia. I also met with colleagues from the UK, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia to coordinate our efforts and bolster our presence in eastern and central Europe.

Ukraine's fight against Russia's illegal invasion is not only a battle for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, but a battle for freedom, peace and democracy across the world.

Oakville Film Festival & National Indigenous Peoples Day
I had the pleasure of attending the opening night of the 10th annual Oakville Film Festival to showcase the incredible work and talent of local filmmakers this past week. The opening night also served as a commemoration of National Indigenous Peoples Day with Grandmother's Voice. Grandmother's Voice continues to bring important issues to the forefront and advocate for a more inclusive, equitable and strong Canada.

The Government of Canada is deeply committed to working with Indigenous partners and allies to strengthen our ties though accountability, community building and reconciliation. Last week the Government of Canada and Ontario announced a historic settlement of $10bn with Anishinaabe communities along the north shore of Lake Huron. Although no amount of compensation can reverse the wrongs experienced by Indigenous Peoples, this funding represents a step in the right direction on our journey to reconciliation.

Delivering on Jordan's Principle
As we continue on the path to healing and reconciliation, one of our priorities is delivering on Jordan's Principle so that Indigenous Peoples can feel safe in their communities and receive the healthcare they need when they need it. As part of our increased health investments, we working with Indigenous partners to allocate $2bn investment in the Indigenous Health Fund.

Cooperation and increased funding are paramount to providing equitable health and safety services to Indigenous populations across Canada. We will continue to build on our efforts in consultation with Indigenous partners and move forward on the path to reconciliation.

Visit to BAPS Toronto
A couple of weeks ago I visited BAPS Toronto to say prayers and to meet leadership and new students who are immigrating to Canada. This community's leadership reminds us that we all have to work together to foster a bright future for everyone.

Mayor's Historical Picnic
It was great to see Oakville come together at the Mayor's Annual Historical picnic. I was so grateful to rejoice with the community amongst music and activities. I always cherish my time with residents.
