This parliamentary session our government made real progress on key issues impacting Canadians, including right here in Oakville. Some key highlights include:

  1. $357 million in federal funding for the Canada-Ontario housing agreement

  2. Banning the use of replacement workers

  3. Attracting more than $46 billion in investments across our EV supply chain since 2020

  4. Expanding eligibility for early retirement to frontline workers

  5. Implementing a National Action Plan on Combatting Auto Theft

On that last note -

As many of you know, prosecuting organized crime groups to deter, disrupt and dismantle auto theft and other illegal activities continues to be a front-of-mind priority for myself and my federal colleagues.

Earlier this month our government undertook concrete action to build a safer Oakville and Canada with the deployment of a mobile X-ray scanner to the GTA to increase the examination of containers in Ontario. This is a key measure that builds on our Action Plan, and we know the introduction of this technology will build on the positive work we have seen following the National Summit on Combatting Auto Theft held in early February.

On April 24, 2024, Halton Regional Police Services concluded a four-month investigation with the seizure of 23 re-vinned vehicles worth over $2 million in Oakville and Toronto. The organized crew of thieves targeted high end vehicles through break and enters and were involved in large-scale drug trafficking. The arrests were a joint effort between RCMP, Peel Regional Police Service, Toronto Police Service, and Halton Regional Police Service.

On a broader scale - in 2024 alone, over 1,300 stolen vehicles have been recovered, 452 in the GTA. And, we will continue to collaborate with provincial and municipal counterparts to build on this work.

Through federal investments, including $121 million to bolster Ontario law enforcement and $15 million to support police collaboration across jurisdictions, we will continue to invest in cutting-edge technology and build synergy across sectors to disrupt and dismantle organized criminal networks.

Making Oakville More Accessible for Everyone
Accessibility should never be a barrier to participation. That’s why our government invested $100,000 to make Oakville's Wedgewood Public Pool more accessible through ramps & handrails, a permanent pool lift and colour contrast signage so that everyone can enjoy this community staple for years to come!

Working to Expand Early Pension Eligibility
Our public servants put their lives in danger to keep Canadians safe - and they deserve a fair pension. We are expanding early pension eligibility to firefighters, paramedics, border services officers, search and rescue technicians and more.
