Canadians always have been and always will be our government’s priority. We are focused on building a resilient, inclusive and sustainable economy that works for everyone so Canadians can continue to enjoy a high quality of life. Our government is also focused on doing our part to keep communities like Oakville safe.
Our 2024 Fall Economic Statement (FES) expands our work and investments here in Oakville and across the country. The FES is delivering investments in wealth-generating research and development, and more support for Canada’s innovators and start-ups.
To further our work keeping communities safe, our government is proposing to further amend the Criminal Code with new additions that again make bail and sentencing laws stricter to better respond to the increased severity of auto theft, break and enter, extortion, and arson crimes committed by repeat, violent, and organized crime offenders. This builds on previous amendments to the bail system implemented in January 2024, which created a new reverse onus to target serious repeat violent offending involving weapons.
We are also strengthening our National Action Plan on Combatting Auto Theft with increased authorities for CBSA to inspect goods destined for export. This will help prevent organized criminals from trafficking stolen vehicles and other prohibited items through Canada's ports.
As we break for the holidays at the House of Commons, I want to thank all my friends and neighbours across Oakville for helping to make 2024 an amazing year for our community. As always, I will continue working to deliver results for our community as Oakville's voice in Ottawa. Sending my best to everyone and wishing you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and a Joyous Kwanzaa!

Dearcroft Montessori School Visit
Last week I visited Dearcroft Montessori School in Oakville to discuss the role of the federal government and how Parliament functions. I was delighted to spend time with such a wonderful and respectful class and help prepare them for their trip to the House of Commons next year!
