Strong public policy is built from the bottom up. Throughout pre-budget consultations, we listened to what Canadians from all walks of life had to say, and worked hard to build feasible solutions that address key priorities. That's why Budget 2024: Fairness for Every Generation will focus on making life more affordable for Canadians, through protecting renters' rights, building more housing, affordable child care spaces, and more.

We know that the rising cost of living is affecting Canadians across the country, especially young families. That's why Budget 2024 is proposing to invest over $1 billion in low-cost loans and $60 million in non-repayable grants to child care providers, so they can build more $10-a-day child care spaces. With this funding, we are well on our way to reaching our goal of creating 250,000 new spaces by March 2026. This milestone announcement builds on our government's Canada-wide early learning and child care system and indexed Canada Child Benefit payments (CCB), which combined together save families up to $21,400 per child, per year.

While our government is focused on increasing access to affordable child care and helping parents get ahead, we are also dedicated to enhancing the quality of early childhood education. And that is exactly what we are fighting for through Budget 2024's proposed investment of $10 million over two years to train more early childhood educators, so that they have the skills and knowledge needed to prepare our children for the future.

Additionally, Budget 2024 proposes a $1 billion investment to create a new National School Food Program, which would build on existing food programs, like Halton Food for Thought and Food4Kids in Oakville, to bring nutritious meals to children from lower-income families. This five year investment will help up to 400,000 more kids get the fuel they need to reach their full potential.

Importantly, our government has been championing affordability since 2015 through policies like the CCB, Canada Carbon Rebate, enhanced Canada Workers Benefit and Canada Housing Benefit, which save Oakville families up to thousands of dollars, every single month. And, through Budget 2024, we will continue to fight for initiatives that build on this critical work.

Budget 2024 on Protecting Renters' Rights
Newcomers and young Canadians work hard to pay their rent. In Budget 2024 we are launching a new $15 million Tenant Protection Fund, creating a new Canadian Renters’ Bill of Rights and making sure renters get credit for on-time rent payments.

Budget 2024 on Building More Housing
With Budget 2024, we are working to continue building more homes faster by topping-up the Housing Accelerator Fund with an additional $400 million and launching a new $6 billion Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund because every Canadian deserves a fair chance to own a home.

Budget 2024 on Early Childhood Education
$10-a-day child care has been a game changer for both Canadian families and the economy. So, we're building more affordable child care spaces & investing in supporting early childhood educators here in Regina and right across the country.
