Canadians always have been and always will be our government’s priority. We are focused on building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable economy that works for everyone. The recently announced 2023 Fall Economic Statement (FES) builds on that promise and invests in Canadians here in Oakville and across the country. FES introduces targeted measures to invest in Canadians where they need it the most while ensuring fiscal responsibility.

We know these are challenging times and Canadians need our support. That’s why our government is introducing a suite of measures to help stabilize prices, support Canadians with mortgages, and make life more affordable. In this work, we are cracking down on unfair junk fees that drive up costs, such as the non-sufficient fund (NSF) fees charged by banks and extra airline fees for seat selection for children.

In the face of higher interest rates, we’re stepping up to protect Canadians who are struggling with their mortgage payments. The newly announced Canadian Mortgage Charter sets clear expectations for how financial institutions are to work with Canadians to provide tailored relief and ensure payments are reasonable for all borrowers.

On top of providing support for Canadians with their mortgage payments, our government continues to remove barriers to building more homes, faster. We’re unlocking new financing that will help create affordable housing that Canadians deserve across the country. In Oakville, we’re delivering for residents with the recent announcement to build 131 environmentally sustainable and purpose-built rental homes. It’s essential that all Canadians have access to safe and affordable housing, which is why we’re investing in the construction of 52 units for low-income seniors in Oakville.

Celebrating National Housing Day on November 22nd:
What better opportunity than National Housing Day to share how the 2023 Fall Economic Statement will continue to deliver for Canadians?

Safe and affordable housing is a right for everyone. From removing GST on co-op rental housing to repurposing federal lands, we will continue our work in Oakville and across Canada to build more homes, faster.

Attending the annual Shifa Gala Fundraiser
I was honoured to join the Oakville Hospital Foundation and the Muslim community of Oakville at the Shifa Gala annual fundraiser to support advanced & high quality medical equipment for the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Thank you to the frontline healthcare workers who work hard every day to make our community safer.

Annual Tree Sale at St. Cuthbert's Church
Last weekend I picked up my Christmas tree at the annual Tree Sale at St. Cuthbert's Church! For over 40 years, Oakville have been gathering here to buy their tree and embrace the holiday spirit with neighbours and friends. I met with church volunteers, joined a parent/child music class and visited a children's Mandarin lesson. Thank you to all the volunteer who make this event possible each year!

Annual Bronte Village Tree Lighting
The holiday spirit was in the air at annual Bronte Village tree lighting! I had a blast chatting with Oakville residents and singing Christmas carols. Thank you Bronte BIA for bringing our Oakville community together as we kick off the holiday season.
