The House of Commons has returned for the fall session, and our government will continue to be there for Canadians and provide real support. I continue to work hard in my role as Member of Parliament for Oakville, and in my mandate as President of the Treasury Board to ensure Canadians’ tax dollars are spent prudently and effectively. It was a busy summer meeting with businesses, public servants, chambers of commerce, local community leaders and more, to discuss how we can build a resilient economy – and the fall holds more to come.

At home, I had the pleasure of speaking alongside my colleague, Minister Champagne, at The Oakville Chamber of Commerce. We discussed our government’s economic agenda and how we will collaborate to foster growth for local businesses and residents. As President of the Treasury Board, I am committed to reducing red tape, supporting small businesses, and ensuring our government makes fiscally responsible investments that help all Canadians.
These themes carried over to my meeting with the London Chamber of Commerce where we discussed reducing regulatory burdens, creating a more inclusive workforce, and making life more affordable for all Canadians. While in London, our national caucus met to discuss continued work to improve affordability and accessible housing both in the Greater Toronto Area, and across Canada.

Since 2015, we have taken concrete action to reduce the cost of living and rapidly increase the supply of affordable rental housing. Notable investments include the $4 billion housing accelerator fund, tax-free first home savings account, and the recent announcement to eliminate GST on the construction of new rental apartment buildings. Here in Oakville, I recently announced over $21 million in federal funding to partner with Halton Region to construct 52 affordable housing units for low-income seniors to ensure they get the support they deserve.

I will continue to represent Oakville’s interests and advocate for a more equitable, inclusive and safe community and Canada so that no one gets left behind.
